Profile

Red Deer Polytechnic is located in Red Deer, Alberta, halfway between the major centres of Calgary and Edmonton.

Since 1964, when our story began as Red Deer College, our post-secondary institution has proudly served our students and communities.

As of July 2021, our institution name is now Red Deer Polytechnic. In 2018, our post-secondary institution received approval to become a degree-granting institution. Now as a polytechnic institution in central Alberta, we will continue to offer the same breadth of credentials and mix of programs in a variety of subject areas that we currently offer. This means we will continue to offer apprenticeships, certificates, degrees, micro-credentials and degrees.

Information Technology

A state of the art Library Information Common opened in 2002. Our Library ensures access to the universe of information and technology. It is a learning centre providing a networked environment and a core collection of more than 130,000 items. The Library is a member of NEOS, a central Alberta library consortium.

As part of Red Deer Polytechnic's larger Alternative Energy Initiative, the Alternative Energy Lab creates opportunities for alternative energy education and research. The lab assists industry and research, while also providing RDP students with the skills necessary to install, operate, and maintain alternative energy systems.

RDP's Alternative Energy Lab provides an applied research venue, allowing RDP to work with and support innovators in the region through research and customized industry training.

The flexible configuration of the lab provides the ability to adapt to new energy systems and technologies as they emerge, ensuring all teaching, demonstration, and research activities are relevant and up-to-date.

RDP's expanded and renovated Makerspace is a place to learn through exploration, innovation, and creation. Use high-tech and low-tech maker equipment, and access materials and machinery required to complete do-it-yourself projects.
